Make It Happen! are a voluntary community group based in Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Founded in 2007, by three mature students who completed a HNC in Community Arts at Ayr College, our 'motto' is 'creativity for community well-being', and our intention is to provide our community with opportunities for involvement in creative projects. We started with projects based around healthy eating, then light exercise through our Afternoon Tea Dances.
The group has expanded in size with a great deal of interest in our most ambitious projects so far, the community garden, and our story sack library. We are also involved with the national children's literacy programme Bookstart Rhymetime
Community volunteers are driving the projects, from being on the management committee to organising events - we could not continue without them.
Our commitment to volunteers is to provide the best possible volunteering experiences, with opportunities for learning new practical skills, developing routes to more sustainable future for the group. Our community garden group developed into a company limited by guarantee in April 2009, and has been accepted by OSCR as a Scottish charity (October 2009). Girvan Community Garden is a company limited by guarantee No.358212, and is a Registered Charity in Scotland SCO40969.
In May 2008 the group was awarded certificates for their outstanding contribution to the local community by South Ayrshire Council's Community Education and Lifelong Learning department.
